How to Get Your Mojo Back

We all have times when the stress and pressure of daily life drags us under and we lose that sparkle in our eyes. We're tired, we're drained, our body aches, and we just want to make it through the day. Sometimes this becomes a long-term habit... but we're not talking about that today. Today we're talking about short periods of time where we fall into this rut.

Let's talk about how to get our mojo back!

Breathe

We underestimate the power and necessity of our breath. Breath is used to clear out toxins, calm us, and send us from our fight-or-flight sympathetic nervous system to our healing parasympathetic nervous system. So that's step one. (Check out this great article about the hidden power behind our quality of breath: https://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-4386/A-Simple-Breathing-Exercise-to-Calm-Your-Mind-Body.html)

Sunshine

Another obvious one. Get some sunshine. Soak in that Vitamin D so you can get an extra boost of some happy hormones in your body.

Small Reward

Do something small for yourself to lift your spirits! It doesn't have to be big. Stretch out on the couch with a hot cup of tea. Give yourself a 5-minute dance party.

Read/Listen to Inspiration

Find a book, blog or podcast that really inspires you. Lose yourself in it! Become the person, the character, the strength - embody all of it.

Small Victories

Set yourself up for a win. You need it! You deserve it! Get your self-respect back. Do that chore you've been putting off. Make that call you've been dreading. Decide that for one day you will be 100% healthy. Whatever it is, do SOMETHING small that you can check off your list and feel good about.

Schedule Creativity

Make time for a burst of creativity! That can look like so many different things. Maybe it means listening to upbeat music and looking through Pinterest with a Home Improvement show on in the background. Maybe it means clearing some space, getting a huge easel and a ton of paint and going nuts to some Mozart music! Maybe it means listening to a ton of music and finding the right one that speaks to you enough to choreograph a dance. Or perhaps it means surrounding yourself with cookbooks and a couple hours to spare so you can cook up something creative and special! Whether it is any of those or something completely different, SCHEDULE time to be creative. If it isn't on your calendar, it WON'T HAPPEN.

Help Someone

We all know that helping others isn't just for the recipient, but also makes the giver feel good! Check up on your friends and family. Do they need anything? What about homeless shelters or animal shelters nearby? You could even try one of those things where you go through a drive-thru (or café, or coffee shop, etc) and pay for the person behind you!

Reach Out

Check in with a friend. Let them know you need your spirits to be lifted. Maybe they know just the thing to get you back to your best!

Journal

Whatever you're feeling, write it all out. Or just write stream of consciousness until you feel like all the noise is out of your head. Write poetry, or a letter to someone who is frustrating you. Write out memories that are heavy on your mind. Whatever it is, write it.

Remember Your Successes

We are our own worst critic. Somehow we seem to have selective memory and only recall all our faults, flaws, mistakes and embarrassing moments. No more! Take some time to remember all the things you succeeded at recently. Big or small, it doesn't matter.

Move Your Body

This one is SO IMPORTANT. If we feel bad in our bodies, we most likely feel bad in our mood, as well. I don't mean "exercise" here. I mean move your body in a way that feels good. Maybe it is dance, maybe it is a walk out in nature, maybe it is yoga. Maybe it is doing things couples do ;) Whatever it is, get your body moving. Think of emotion as e-motion - energy in motion. As we start to move, all the thoughts, energy and gunk that has built up starts to move and flow. Suddenly things seem a whole lot clearer. Suddenly ideas and inspiration appear out of nowhere. Plus, it just FEELS good. Again, NOT "EXERCISE"! Movement that FEELS GOOD to you!

That's all I've got! If you've lost your mojo, try these things out. I KNOW you'll feel a ton better, and be ready to take on the world again.

Let me know how it goes, or if you have any other suggestions!
