You Are A Hero, Not A Victim

Pay extra attention to how you view yourself and how you frame the story you tell yourself about what is going on in your life. It’s easy for us to get stuck in a difficult chapter and to frame it from merely that perspective of hardship, making ourselves the victim. But remember, you are the HERO in your story.
Heroes go through hardships, too, but they are not victims. They can have chapters where they doubt themselves and feel sorry for themselves. But then they get back up and defeat the darkness. Remember to keep the broader perspective when you look at where you are in your life. Your emotions may be telling you that you are miserable. That you are unfulfilled. But look how far you have come. Look at all the things you have done. Frame it in this way. You maneuvered your way around all those obstacles. You’ve gained skill after skill, experience after experience, which is preparing you for your bigger mission.
That’s no victim. That is one tough S.O.B.
You’ve endured hardship. You’ve endured pain. You’ve endured sacrifice. And yeah, it wasn’t fair. You didn’t deserve it. But you made it through and are continuing to make it through. Look at how strong you are now! Look at how wise you are. How sharp. How clever. You have leveled up. I know it looked plenty messy and pathetic as you struggled through it, but see it for what it is. Sanding and polishing your brilliance.
Even if you’re still in it – it’s okay. This too shall pass. Eventually. If it has been going on for a while, your emotions will make you feel like this is all that has ever been and all that will ever be. It’s a lie. There was a time before this, and there will be a time after it. I promise. I’ve been there plenty of times. Hell, I’ve been there recently.
Just remember that you are not a victim. You are the hero. Look at all that you have accomplished in the face of hardship. And be so, so proud of yourself. You deserve it.
